Okay working now ... apparantly it just needs a little time.
I've been knitting for years and getting better and better in a technical sense. But I've been frustrated by finished sweaters that look great on a hanger but terrible on me. In the past, I've gone on to another pattern and yarn but now realizing that I want to take the time to find some styles that are flattering and fine-tune the process until I get it right.
When shopping, you can simply keep trying on clothes until you find the style, color and fit that works. If I was paying someone to knit my clothes for me, I'd be a) paying a fortune and b) expecting custom fit and great results. I'm paying a fortune on quality yarn and I think I should be getting great results too.
I've learned about the colors that flatter me best and now I'm paying attention to styles that seem to flatter me as well. Along these lines, I think it's going to be important to settle on a yarn weight and gauge that works well and stick with it until I get it right. I've noticed the sweaters I knit for my husband keep getting better and better; now I want that for me too.
Turtlenecks are a style that works for me as well as a slouchier, longer length V-neck to layer over T-shirts. I'm going to start trying to find these two patterns in a DK weight and get going.
I'll try to post a picture of my the Jo Sharp sweater in progress ... It's coming along nicely though I've never made a sweater with so many ends to weave in. The thoughts of trying to sew it up are terrifying me!
